Optic, also known as red dots (which can be red, green or gold) are here to stay.  They allow you to be focused on the target, not the sites on your firearm.  Some firearms are what we call optics ready, meaning they have a cut out in the slide, or top part of the firearm to be able to mount the optic.  There are specific instructions for each firearm/optic combination to ensure the optic is reliable and there when you need it.  Also, you cannot just put an optic on a firearm and call it a day.  There is a process called zeroing to ensure that where the dot is is where the shot goes.  Different firearms are different in size and fit different optics.  Your instructor can help guide you through the process of choosing the right optic for your firearm, mounting it and zeroing it.  And of course, train you on how to use it quickly and efficiently.
