Welcome Christian Warriors. My name is Keith. Today we're going to talk about AB 1333. Now, AB 1333 is the most insane law I've seen come out of California in a very long time. Essentially, I'm just going to break down a great scenario for you. An active shooter enters your church and starts attacking the people inside. If you're church security and you're armed, you'll have to retreat and hide first. I'm not kidding. It makes it so you have a duty to hide and retreat before using deadly force. Think about how crazy that is. I'm just going to stop before we get into this law and break down the nuts and bolts of it and what it means for church security teams. I speak a little bit of authority about California laws. I was a copying the San Francisco Bay area for 30 years. My family has been in California since the 1860s.
My family in the late 18 hundreds held constitutional office in California. Now, there's not one person left in California. My generation was the first to leave and everybody's gone. Every year new laws would come out of California and they were some of the most insane laws I'd ever see that I can't believe actually passed, and we would have to brief officers about these new laws and just feel good about our cops. Most of us would just laugh and say, we're not going to enforce that. But this one, they're going to come after you. If you use deadly force to protect yourself or others, they will. And I'll give you a perfect example later on in the video, but if you're a church security team member in California, this is a huge deal for you and you need to be following this. If you represent church security teams in any fashion, whether it be an association or an association of pastors or anything like that, you need to be all over this.
Basically what it's doing is it's not stopping crime, it's just handcuffing law abiding citizens that want to defend themselves against bad, bad people. It's just another California law that criminalizes victims and gives a free pass to attackers. Now, as I alluded to earlier in the beginning of the video, church security is going to have to prove that they tried to escape before using deadly force. So prosecutors are going to argue that you could have locked a door, you could have run away, you could have waited instead of acting or something along those lines. So if you don't have proof that you exhausted every other option before using force, you could face criminal charges. Now, we all know this is not how self-defense works, and we all know that it's going to cost lives in an emergency. Now security teams are going to be legally pressured to flee instead of protecting your church.
And we know that in a crisis, hesitation kills, but this law is going to force hesitation. Criminals aren't going to follow AB 1333. In fact, they're just going to keep attacking and killing people. Church security teams are now going to have to ask themselves if they want to go to jail for stopping an attacker. Now, for a lot of you, you answered that already and you said, of course I'm going to protect my people, but there's going to be a lot of heartache after that shooting for you. Essentially what California legislators are doing is they're legislating cowardice. Don't be a sons. You have to understand that prosecutors are going to go after church defenders that use deadly force, and we've seen it before. We've seen prosecutors going after law abiding gun owners in California while criminals walk free. Let me give you a perfect example.
In California and the county that I worked in, it's Alameda County. It is a jury pool consisting of residents of Oakland and Berkeley to give you an idea of the quality of people you have, and if you live in Oakland and Berkeley, I'm actually talking directly to you, this county, Alameda County, is probably the most liberal county in the United States. One day in San Leandro, California, it's right next to Oakland. There was a call of a man with a baseball bat attacking people in a Walmart. It's a pretty bad situation. The officer responded, got out of his car, raced into the Walmart, saw the man attacking people with a baseball bat, and he tased him. The guy defeated the taser and started advancing on the police officer. The police officer ended out shooting and killing the suspect. We can all agree that that was an appropriate use of deadly force.
Now, the video is online. You can go look at it. I think there were other measures that I would've taken to stop that man before shooting him, but I wasn't there and the officer wasn't wrong. It all goes back to the defender. If that's you, you're going to jail under this new law because instead of protecting those people that were getting attacked with a baseball bat, you should have hidden in a closet, run back to your car and driven away. You should have done something else. But think about that active shooter, an active shooter comes into the church and starts murdering people. If you don't run and hide in a closet, you're going to be prosecuted for murder. And I know people are going to, and this happened before, have brought up laws before. People will say, this will never pass it. Will they have passed before?
Go look at California penal code and see the insane stuff that's in there. Or people will say, oh, well, they'll give an exception to an active shooter. Really the George Soros funded das that only charge 4% of the criminals in the cases that come across their desk. You think they're not going to charge you if that's what you're thinking. You need to change your attitude and understand that this is how they put it on paper, and if we don't defeat, it's going to pass. Now, a lot of you're going to say it's crazy California, and I kind of agree with you a little bit, but a lot of these laws have gone to other states and it become law elsewhere. California is the proving grounds for all liberal legislation. It will move to other states if it passes. So everybody should be concerned about this.
Now in Idaho, I don't have to worry about it because we have stand your ground and they actually have an immunity for civil cases, for church security teams using use of force if they're defending their church. So they actually do things to help us protect our church. California is the polar opposite. If you live in Massachusetts, Illinois, New York, you really need to worry about what's happening in California right now, and I want you to remember something else too. Let's say you stop that man that's attacking churchgoers. Even if you win in court, the legal battle is going to destroy you financially. Now, when you look at the real world impact of AB 1333 on churches in California, you have to understand that they are already soft targets, and this just makes churches in California even softer attackers are going to know that security teams are legally required to hesitate.
I've been putting out a lot of information about Al-Qaeda and ISIS doing pre-tax surveillance of churches specifically in Southern California. So we know they're looking to attack a church. If they're going to attack a church, would they come to Idaho where they know that we're armed and we have protections? Where are they going to go to California where they are legislating a way your right to protect yourself. I swear that California is the strangest place. Now, look, I knew this was wrong, but you always turn to the Bible to help guide you in your decision to fight something. So I turned to the Bible this morning to look at what is the right thing to do here, and we all know it, but I like turning into the Bible to look. In Exodus chapter 22, verse two and three, it says, if a thief is caught breaking in at night and has struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed.
Now here the Bible recognizes the right to defend your home, and we have to remember the church is our spiritual home, but we can go further into Luke 2236. This is a standard verse that we all use for self-defense. Jesus here says, if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. Jesus is instructing his disciples to be prepared to defend themselves on the journey that they're about to take. We can go back to the Old Testament in Nehemiah chapter four, verse 14. Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord who is great and awesome and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives in your homes. Here, God commands us to defend our families and communities and to not flee. In Psalm chapter 82, verse four, rescue the weak in the needy. Deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
Here, security teams protect the innocent and AB. 1333 is going to make that even harder. So a lot of you're asking, what do I do now? This isn't law yet and churches and gun owners need to fight it right now, even if you don't live in California. Look, we need to stand up for our fellow brothers and sisters in California and we need to do what we can to fight this. If you have a pastor's association, any kind of an association has anything to do with church, they need to contact legislators in California and let them know that you can't stand for this. Use the active shooter as an example of how insane this law is. If you live in California, you want to contact your representatives. You want to tell your church you want to raise awareness. You want to put this in the bulletin, give phone numbers.
You want to put pressure on all your elected officials. You also want to prepare for legal battles. If this passes, it will pass, okay? Because California is that insane. I don't know if the governor would sign it into law. He's actually been stopping some crazy legislation lately, but he is crazy too. Security teams just need to have airtight policies to protect themselves from prosecution. Now is a good time to break everything out and make sure your policies are good to go. You want to document everything. If you have to use force, just be prepared to prove that it was your last option. If this passes, the other thing is I want you to do is I want you to pray for protection, but be ready to defend. The enemy wants church defenseless, and this is just part of the battle that we're standing on right now. God calls us to stand firm and protect his people, and AB 1333 is an attack on that calling. After you pray, pray hard and unceasingly. I want you to remember your ABCs. Always be carrying.
