Hello, my name is John. I'm with JW Firearms and the trainer for Cindy's Hotshots. I'm here to talk to you today about the Maryland Handgun Qualification License or HQL. The HQL is a four hour class that's required by Maryland state law. It is for Maryland residence only, and it's important to note that if you have your cannabis card or medical marijuana card, Maryland will not issue you an HQL as long as you possess that card. Here at JW Firearms and Cindy's hotshots, we pride ourselves on being a one-stop shop. Your fingerprinting services are included in the course as well as we'll walk you step-by-step through the application process. The only thing that's not included in the course is the application fee that you'll pay the Maryland State Police upon completion of your application. Our course starts in the classroom and then we move to the range.
Real-life experience
Our class ends at the range with live fire, live ammunition. We don't use any munition in our classes. We want to ensure that our students get that real-life experience, especially for new shooters who've never been to a range before. Some of the things we're cover in our class is both federal and Maryland laws pertaining to purchasing firearms, how to transport those firearms both inside and outside of the state. The safe handling of firearms rules and why they are important. How to safely store your firearm to prevent children and other at-risk adults from getting ahold of your firearms. We're going to make sure that the principles of personal security inside and outside of the home are covered. We're going to talk about the different types of handguns and how they function, the different types of ammunition, some of the fundamentals of those marksmanship. We're going to make sure you know how to load, unload, maintain the most common types of pistols and revolvers. We're going to make sure that you choose the proper firearm.
