Right now on WSA Nine News at six, cracking Down DC promotes a new partnership aimed at getting deadly weapons like these off our city streets. Good evening, I'm Leslie Foster. Just a few hours ago, DC's mayor and police chief talked with reporters alongside them, the heads of DC's office of the A TF and US attorneys from Virginia and Maryland, all of them united with one goal preventing guns from other states, from ending up at crime scenes in the district. Mayor Muriel Bowser says she's been to too many of those scenes this year.

Too many times on those scenes, there's frequently the same question. How are these guns coming into our neighborhoods? We don't make guns in dc. How are all of these guns on our streets? So what you have heard today is our focus on how we prevent guns from coming into our neighborhoods and making sure we are holding people accountable who are breaking the law.

DC is already partnering with federal agencies to investigate gun crimes. Now there's a stronger partnership in place to prosecute people who illegally get guns into DC from surrounding states. So where are they coming from? Well have the guns found at DC crime scenes. Most of them are coming from Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, and the Carolinas. This is a serious issue facing our city. We'll continue to report on it, pushing for answers from city leaders. Lorenzo Hall has done some exceptional reporting on the real impact of gun violence on families. You'll find it on our website and the new WUSA9 app.
