Hey everybody, Stephanie here with our newest legal update. So we've had a lot of things happen within this past year, starting with the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association Case versus brew. And so if you're new to everything that's happening, that Supreme Court case ruled that our Second Amendment rights do indeed exist outside of our homes. So in states like Maryland, which was previously a may issue, state has become a shall issue state. And as predicted, a lot of these states are enacting what are called place restrictions. So New York, California, now Maryland and some others are trying to restrict where we can legally carry our firearms. So at the beginning of this year's legislative session, Senator Wald Stryker from Montgomery County introduced a bill called SB one and SSB one, effectively limited where you can carry to nowhere you can essentially only carry inside of your home.

Case is Novotny versus Moore

Now, amongst this long list of place restrictions, Maryland shall issue along with Firearms Policy Coalition have come together and immediately sued the case is Novotny versus Moore. And so essentially there has been a preliminary injunction filed for been 1000 feet of a demonstration private property, and also places where alcohol is served. So Judge Russell who was on this case said that historically statutes only prohibited those who are intoxicated from carrying a firearm. And so restricting where you could carry just based on the presence of alcohol being sold was way overboard. Senators Justin Reedy and another who are Senate leaders in the state of Maryland and a part of the Maryland Senate Republican Caucus have issued a statement saying that what needs to happen is just stronger enforcement of the rules of the laws we already have in place, rather than restricting law-abiding citizens from being able to carry.

Need Support

This is obviously our position as well, but right now, if you're wondering where you can carry as of October 1st, most of the place restrictions do apply except for private property being within a thousand feet of a public demonstration. And you can still carry in places where alcohol is served. So restaurants are still a go, so we're going to keep you updated with this. If you feel called to support, please support Maryland Shall Issue and Firearms Policy Coalition because they're doing great work to spearhead this effort here in Maryland. Stay plugged in and we'll keep you updated and we'll see you at the range.
